2024 Victorian Enabling Women Leadership Program

Apply now for our 2024 statewide Enabling Women Leadership Program.

This Program is for women and non-binary people with disability, who want to learn more about their human rights, speaking up, and how to be a leader.

Participants will gain confidence, make new connections, and work with a mentor to achieve a leadership goal.

3-Part Online Professional Development: Enhancing Gender and Disability Inclusive Practice

Register now for a series of three (3) online workshops, for social and community service professionals, to learn about how gender and disability inequality drives violence, and how you can prevent it.

Session 1: Tuesday 23 April, 12:30pm–3:30pm

Cost

All 3 sessions: $350 employed professionals/ $250 student/ concession

Individual sessions: $125 employed professionals/ $90 student/ concession

What you will learn

Session 1: Introduction to Prevention of Violence against Women with Disabilities (Prerequisite for Sessions 2 and 3)

  • How gender and disability inequality intersect to create disadvantage for women with disabilities
  • Impacts of violence against women with disabilities
  • New models of understanding disability and addressing ableism

Session 2: Gender and Disability Drivers of Violence

  • How our everyday actions and practice can contribute to violence against women with disabilities
  • How gender and disability equitable practice can create change to end violence
  • Introducing concepts of inclusive and accessible practice

Session 3: Prevention in Action

  • Strategies and tools to prevent violence against women with disabilities
  • Resistance and backlash
  • Bystander action

The series is facilitated by women with lived experience of disabilities and centres the voices of lived experience. It is evidence-based, aligning with the latest research on disability, Our Watch’s Changing the Landscape, and the Preventing Family Violence & Violence against Women Capability Framework.

Women with Disabilities Victoria are pleased to invite you to the upcoming March Quarterly Conversations, a FREE online Members event.

This valuable conversation with the 2023 Brenda Gabe Leadership Award Winner, Melanie Guiney, is not one to miss!

Melanie champions the right for all people to experience safe relationships and intimacy through sexuality education for people with cognitive disability, development disability and Autism. Her work reduces sexual harm and violence to women and girls with disability and influences the disability sector and community attitudes to enable positive sexuality for people with disability.

Invitation to join the Experts in Our Health Community of Practice for advocates

Who we’re looking for:
Women and Non-Binary People with Disabilities who want to:
• Advocate for accessible health services
• Share experiences and learn from other advocates
• Be part of an advocacy community

People advocate in different ways. We are looking for women and non-binary people with disabilities who’d like to share and learn more about advocacy.

Advocacy can be:
• Being a part of a disability leadership group
• Being on an advisory committee
• Advocating as part of your job
• Being an advocate for yourself

What’s Involved:
The Experts in Our Health Community of Practice for women and non-binary people with disabilities will run from September 2023 until April 2024. Meetings will be held online and run for 2 hours. The Community of Practice will meet once every month. There will be 8 sessions.
