  • Repurposing NDIS funds
WDV are concerned that Scott Morrison’s re-purposing of $3.9 billion originally intended for the National Disability Insurance Scheme to drought relief will leave many people with disability without access to appropriate support.
Even prior to this announcement, many recipients of NDIS packages found the funding inadequate and there is a growing number of Australians deemed ineligible for funding.
The repurposing of these funds will widen the gap between those with and without disability and will ensure further delays for those to whom such funding is necessary for day-to-day life.
While we agree that farmers are in need of substantial financial aid and community support, re-allocating funds that were originally budgeted for the NDIS is not the way forward.
The rollout of the NDIS, despite best intentions has revealed many unexpected complexities not originally accounted for and we fear that decreasing the promised funds will put its targets further out of reach.
We call on all levels of government to ensure there are no gaps in the reach of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
